Detailed Measurements of Poloidal Velocity of Density and Floating Potential Fluctuations in the Edge Plasma of the CASTOR Tokamak

چکیده
The ion saturation current and floating potential are measured with high temporal (1 μs) and spatial (2.5 mm) resolutions within the edge plasma of CASTOR tokamak by two poloidally spaced radial arrays of Langmuir probes. The radial electric field and the phase velocity of plasma fluctuations are determined. It is found that radial profiles of both of these quantities are strongly sheared in the proximity of the last closed flux surface. In the proximity of the VSL, the shearing rate is higher than the characteristic frequency of plasma fluctuation and reduction of fluctuation level is observed.

Signature of turbulent zonal flows observed in the DIII-D tokamak.
The spectrum of turbulent density fluctuations at long poloidal wavelengths in the edge plasma of the DIII-D tokamak peaks at nonzero radial wave number. The associated electric-potential fluctuations cause sheared E x B flows primarily in the poloidal direction. These zonal flows have been predicted by theory and are believed to regulate the overall level of turbulence and anomalous transport....
متن کاملAnalyses of Relaxation Events in the CASTOR Tokamak Using Deeply Immersed Biasing Electrode
In CASTOR tokamak a strong radial electric field is generated by a biased electrode immersed deep inside the plasma column. If the Er is strong enough, the edge plasma parameters a relax with periodicity of about 100 μs. This phenomenon is experimentally studied by a complex system of electric and magnetic probes. Introduction Transport of plasma to the walls is one of the crucial topics in mag...
متن کاملMagnetohydrodynamic mechanism for pedestal formation.
Time-dependent two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations are carried out for tokamak plasmas with edge poloidal flow. Differently from conventional equilibrium theory, a density pedestal all around the edge is obtained when the poloidal velocity exceeds the poloidal sound speed. The outboard pedestal is induced by the transonic discontinuity, the inboard one by mass redistribution. The de...
متن کاملEffect of poloidal density variation of neutral atoms on the tokamak edge.
Neutral atoms in the tokamak edge affect the electric field and plasma flow through charge exchange. Here, it is shown that these effects depend sensitively on the poloidal location of the atoms. It is found that the radial electric field and toroidal flow velocity in a collisional edge plasma are largest if the atoms are concentrated on the inboard side. This feature may explain MAST and COMPA...
متن کاملThree-dimension spectral characteristics of low-frequency Zonal Flow in the edge plasma of HL-2A tokamak
The low-frequency Zonal Flow (LFZF), coexisting with the geodesic acoustic mode (GAM) was observed at the edge of HL-2A tokamak plasmas using four Langmuir probe arrays. It is identified as a low-frequency coherent mode peaking near zero frequency and broadening several kilohertz on the power spectral density (PSD) of the floating potential fluctuations. Besides the poloidal and toroidal axisym...
